Croatian Darts Federation started a project that could revolutionize the game of darts

1.000 dart machines in 1.000 schools

After being officially recognized as a sport in a several European countries, darts is poised to make another huge step forward in attempt to rise it's level of popularity. Croatian Darts Federation (CDF) started a project that could forever change the game of darts.

Recent donation of an electronic dart machine to the Center for education Tomislav Spoljar in Varazdin, started a project called "1.000 dart machines in 1.000 schools". Headman of CDF traveled from Zagreb to Varazdin to kick-off it's ambitious project.
"We look at this as an historic moment. Darts is already being played by millions of people all around world, but to install it as an constituent part of physical education in schools, which is our aim, would be a great accomplishment. This project is in accordance with the program of Croatian Olympic Committee for the support of the sports activities among youth, and it is also a part of the developing program of Croatian Darts Federation", said Mate Vukoja, President of CDF.
England and Netherlands, two of Europe's leading darts countries, already have specialized schools for darts. Emergence of two young Dutch players, Michael van Gerwen who at 17 became the youngest winner of a major darts event when he beat England captain Martin Adams at the World Masters in October 2006, and Jelle Klaasen, youngest ever world champion when he won the BDO tournament at 21 in 2006, is the best possible evidence that investing in youth always pays off.
The fact that first CDF donation was made to the school for the bodily disabled persons makes it even more valuable.
"One of the purposes of this action is to show that darts is a sport that can be played by all, no matter what age group or gender they belong, or which body disability they have. We want to emphasize the importance of sports activities in school as an important factor that affects health, and also physical and psychological development of young people. We believe that darts is a perfect sport for that purposes", said Branko Subic, Sports Director of CDF.
Subic added that next month Croatian Darts Federation will make another donation, this time to one school in Osijek which will get Spider, an electronic dart machine which market price is 800 €.
