Czech women better than Germany
In the most important team tournament held at Prague, Poland beat Croatia 2-0 (9:6, 9:6) in the finals of Nations Cup. After exciting game which saw Croatia recover after Poland raced to an early lead in both games, at the end Poles had more concentration in the finish to win their second title of European Champions (they also won in Hamburg 2004).
Croatia also has two titles under their belt (1999 in Brno and 2000 in Riccione), but this time they had to settle for silver.
Poland was led by Krzysztof Ratajski, who won all of his games, and Krysztof Kciuk, while Marek Dyrda and Rafal Fiszerowicz gave them valuable support. Head Coach of Croatia Branko Subic tried to turn things around by replacing captain of National Team Zoran Grgic with Zvonimir Lesic. He almost managed to beat Ratajski in his first game, but couldn't hit double to finish. Croatians Boris Krcmar, Igor Sestan and Vlado Descak also weren't at their best.
Serbia finished third, while Hungary was fourth. Total of 20 countries participated in mens tournament, although Belgium was disqualified before the competition started because they had severel players from Netherland. It was a record number of countries that participated at EDU Nations Cup.
In the finals of womens tournament Czech beat Germany 2-0 (9:8, 9:4). The biggest surprise was elimination of Hungary and Croatia in the second round of group stage. In the last 8 competitions only these two countries took titles (Hungary 6 times and Croatia 2).
Czech was led by Dagmar Komorova, but she also had a lot of help from Alena Prochazkova, Blanka Vojtkova and Pavla Sauerova.
Russia finished third and Switzerland was fourth.
